When The Stars Go Blue

(Blog title courtesy of Bono & The Corrs)

Still in the thick of deadline madness and the messages are piling up!! And while I won't be getting to them anytime soon, I figured I'd answer a few of the more commonly asked questions here:

Q. When will Dark Flame be in stores?
A. June 22, 1010

Q. When will you post the first chapter of Dark Flame so we can read it?
A. As soon as my publisher gives me the okay!

Q. Is Dark Flame the last book in The Immortals series?
A. No. It's the 4th book. The 5th book is Night Star (I'm working on it now!), and the 6th book is, as of yet, untitled.

Q. When will Radiance be in stores?
A. August 31, 2010

Q. Is Radiance part of The Immortals series?
A. It's a spin-off of the series, starring Ever's ghostly little sister, Riley & her dog Buttercup. It's about her adventures in the afterlife!

Q. Are you going to make a movie of The Immortals?
A. No. Hollywood makes the movies, I just write the books. Though, the dramatic rights were optioned by a producer so I'm hopeful that someday a movie will be made! My fingers are crossed--which makes for some very awkward typing . . .

Q. Can I audition for the movie? I would be a perfect: Ever, Haven, Riley, (insert character here).
A. I'm afraid I will have as little control over that as I do over whether or not it actually becomes a movie. It's all in the hands of Hollywood now . . .

Q. Are you doing any book signings?
A. Yes! You can find more on that HERE and HERE!

Q. When can we see the cover of Night Star?
A. As soon as it's finalized. But I saw an early mock-up and it's really, really pretty!

Q. I heard you have a story in the upcoming Kisses From Hell anthology--is that true?
A. Yes, it's called Bring Me to Life (after the Evanescence song) and it was really fun to write! It'll be in stores in September!!

Q. Is Bring Me to Life about Ever & Damen?
A. No. It's an entirely new story, a gothic romance, with entirely new characters!

Q. Why did you name this blog post When The Stars Go Blue?
A. Two reasons.
1. Because I recently got a sneak peek at Caridad Ferrer's upcoming YA of the same name and LOVED it!
2. Because it's an awesome song.

Q. Did you really get braces?
A. Yes.

Q. Why?
A. I ask myself that same question every single day!

Q. Is it true that you're sitting on some exciting news you can't wait to tell us?
A. Yes. it's true. But for now, I am bound to both secrecy and the powers of Jinx!

:)

Okay, back to work . . .

Have a good day all!

Imagine

(blog title courtesy of John Lennon)

Hey Everyone-

Wow, I can hardly believe almost a week has passed since my last blog entry, but the truth is there's a very good chance this could happen again as I'm careening toward the deadline for NIGHT STAR (formerly known as Untitled Immortals Book #5), which makes for such crazy-making times that the normal, daily activities like eating & showering are reduced to two more annoying items on the "To Do" list, while blogging definitely takes a back seat.

Though before I jump back into the world of Ever & Damen, I thought I'd take this rare moment of procrastination free time to catch you up on a few "newsy" type things:

1. RADIANCE: I just learned that foreign rights to Riley's series, beginning with RADIANCE, have sold to both France & the UK!!! I am very, very excited about this!

2. KISSES FROM HELL- an anthology: will be in stores September 1, 2010, and I'm thrilled to be included along with such amazing authors Kelley Armstrong, Francesca Lia Block, Kristin Cast, & Richelle Mead. I had a blast writing my story, a gothic romance titled, BRING ME TO LIFE, and I really hope you enjoy it too!

3. The Smart Girls Kick it Tour: Big things happening on the tour front- we've got the Smart Girls Facebook page HERE & The Smart Girls Twitter feed HERE

And a whole line up of awesome authors and exciting cities lined up!

The tour is set to begin mid-September, so stay tuned for more details coming soon . . .

4. And in case you missed it last time, the release of DARK FLAME has moved up to:

June 22, 2010!!

While RADIANCE will be in stores on:
August 31, 2010!!

5. And . . . well, there's actually more to share . . . and as soon as I get the okay, I will . . .

:)

That's it for now-- Happy President's Day everyone!

Don't Stop Believin'

(Blog title courtesy of Journey)

So last night, my husband & I decided to celebrate The Immortals hitting their 52nd consecutive week on the New York Times Best Sellers list by dining at the same restaurant Ever dined at with Sabine on page 38 in Evermore.

The one Riley called, "ChiChi."

(For those of you who don't have your book handy, that restaurant is HERE.)

And after enjoying an awesomely "ChiChi" meal with probably just a bit too much wine & champagne, served by our awesome waiter with the world's coolest name (shout out to Metro!)--it suddenly hit me:

Six years ago --to the day!-- I was in Las Vegas with my husband (a business conference for him), it was our last night on the town and I gave myself a stern talking to I'll never forget.

You see, my then agent had been shopping my debut novel, FAKING 19, and all we seemed to be getting for our efforts was a nice big stack of rejections. Months had passed, and not one publisher was biting, and I was starting to doubt that they ever would.

It was making me sad, depressed, filled with self-doubt, and probably not all that fun to live with. So, that night, I made a vow to myself to release it. To stop focusing on it, obsessing over it, and worrying about an outcome I had absolutely no control over whatsoever.

I decided to just let it be and turn my focus to something else.

I wasn't necessarily giving up on the book, and I definitely wasn't giving up on my dream of being published, but I was giving up on all of that energy I'd spent freaking out over its unsold state.

Moments after I'd made that commitment, I felt better. Lighter. Less burdened. And I decided that as soon as I returned home the next day, I would pick up where I left off on that "other" book idea I'd kinda started (aka-ART GEEKS & PROM QUEENS).

So, cut to the very next day, February 4, 2004, I've pushed Faking 19 totally out of my mind, and am thinking up new plot ideas for my other book, while returning the rental car to the airport, when my agent calls to tell me that St. Martin's Press just offered me a deal for FAKING 19 and "whatever else I was working on."

Yep, less than 24 hours after releasing my obsession, it all just sort of happened on its own.

Last year on this date, when I first hit the NYT list, I couldn't help but notice the coincidence in the dates, and I'm sure I blogged about it then too.

This year, after being on the list for a year straight (something I never even dreamed of!), and with the milestone hitting on the same date, well, sorry for the redundancy, but I couldn't help but blog about it again.

I guess what I'm really trying to say here is that if you really, really want something you cannot give up on the dream itself--though you can (and should) give up on the negative emotions that tend to crop up when that dream is temporarily thwarted.

Don't give in to the self-doubt and that little voice in your head that just loves the words like "Can't" and "No" and "Sorry, not for you!"

Just keep learning, doing, improving, and moving forward--and don't forget to take time to enjoy the journey, because even though it's not always pleasant while you're down in the muck of it--looking back on all the rough bits you survived sure makes it feel sweeter once you've arrived!

Have a good day everyone!

Secret Garden

(Blog title courtesy of The Boss--Bruce Springsteen!)

(Summerland--as imagined by Skyrose--isn't it lovely?!!)

So, the ringing in of a new decade got me thinking a lot about how I spent the last one, and I have to say, that if nothing else, it's been one of great change. Containing some of the hardest, most difficult hurdles I've ever faced, and yet those very same hurdles ended up providing not only great opportunity for learning and growth, but the chance to build something positive from them.

On the Millennium New Year's Eve, I was in Stockholm Sweden on a four day layover (I was working as a NYC based flight attendant back then), and a trip like that was pretty much the same as getting paid to vacation in a gorgeous (and cold!!) city. And, as I was still dating my soon-to-be husband, I took him along and we had an amazing time!

Fast forward to 2001, we got married in May, and by September, when 9/11 hit, I was suddenly faced with a 40% pay cut and the additional duty of performing early morning bomb checks. And as horrible and tragic as that day was, as much as that moment of watching those planes fly into the towers will forever be sealed in my mind, it also served as the impetus to finally stop talking about my dream of being a writer, and actually start, well, writing!

So, I dusted off the story I'd started nearly a decade before, finished it, sent it off to a slew of publishers (erroneously thinking I didn't need an agent--wrong!), only to get a slew of rejections for my efforts. And yet, as much as it hurt to be rejected by everyone, in the end it just made me try harder. I took classes, revised my manuscript over and over again, and by 2003 I had an agent, and by Feb 4, 2004 I was offered a two-book deal with St. Martin's Press!

But before we'd even finished celebrating, we were hit with tragedy as every member of my husband's immediate family was diagnosed with cancer within months of each other--including my husband.

By 2005, when my debut novel, FAKING 19, was released we'd already lost his mother, and a very, dear, old friend of mine (my first love!), suddenly passed away too. By the time my second book was released, my husband lost his twin brother, and by the time my third book was released, I was on the verge of losing my husband as well.

But, he pulled through, and what was truly the absolute darkest phase of my life, ultimately shifted into something else. And I soon realized that If I hadn't experienced that--if I hadn't gone through a grief so deep I could barely get off the couch--I wouldn't have been able to write Saving Zoe, Cruel Summer, or any of the books in The Immortals series. Those stories were a direct result of where I'd been and who I'd become because of it. Writing them helped me to make better sense of the world.

2009 has brought some amazing opportunities my way, and to say that I'm grateful hardly seems sufficient. And even though I have no idea what 2010 will bring--I can't wait to get started! If nothing else, I think I've finally learned that no matter how dire something may seem on the surface, if you go deep (very, very deep!), there's a message, an opportunity for growth, and maybe even a chance to turn it into something better.

The other night I watched "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" (original version) on TV, and at the very end, in Charlie's "all is lost" moment, when Wonka tells him that he failed the test and to go away, Charlie reaches into his pocket and hands over the gum he'd taken earlier. Only to have Wonka look at him, eyes shining as he says:

"So shines a good dead in a weary world."

And then hands him the keys to the kingdom.

I hope you all shine just as bright (if not brighter!) in 2010!!

Blue Moon

Blue Moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue Moon
You know just what I was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone I really could care for

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when I looked to the moon it turned to gold

Blue Moon
Now I'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

(lyrics by Richard Rogers & Lorenz Hart)

Just wanted to wish you all a very Happy New Year and all the best in 2010!!! And, as these things go, this particular New Year's Eve just happens to be a BLUE MOON--how cool is that?!

Celebrate and be safe!

Into The Mystic

(Blog title courtesy of Van Morrison)

The art work above comes courtesy of the incredibly awesome Alexa, who is as nice as she is talented--Thanks, Alexa!!

So, it's been a crazy/busy last few weeks, what with the release of SHADOWLAND, the deadline for Book #1 in the Riley Series (still no title!), which, btw, I had so much fun writing I actually finished it 2 weeks early (!), and then of course there was Thanksgiving, quickly followed by my b-day (thanks for all the b-day wishes--you guys are The Best!), and now I've spent the last few days desparately trying to catch up all the things I let slide . . .

(Part of my b-day dinner- I LOVE octopus, what can I say?!)

Part of that catching up including some interviews I'd promised a while back, one of which you can read HERE, and I have to say that this one happens to be particularly awesome to me since I was lucky enough to meet Amy at my Bakersfield signing and her and her husband could not have been nicer!

Also, I just learned that EVERMORE is nominated for GoodReads "All Time Favorite of 2009" Award, along with THE IMMORTALS series which is nominated for "Best YA series" Award--a sort of double header--how cool is that? For those of you interested in casting your vote, just click HERE!

And in more IMMORTALS type news, the series has now sold translation rights to 30 countries (!), and it's made the New York Times Children's Series Best Sellers List for 2 weeks straight--an amazingly difficult list as my 3 titles compete directly with series who boast 6 or more titles!! While SHADOWLAND has made the USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and WalMart Best Sellers Lists as well--so Thank YOU- Thank YOU- Thank YOU - for all of your support--I really appreciate it!

And speaking of SHADOWLAND, the Chattanooga Times chose it as a "Childrens Gift Book to Put Under the Tree"--you can see the full list HERE!

And speaking of DARK FLAME (okay, I know we weren't but I couldn't think of a better segue), I recently got a sneak peek at the cover and it's awesome!! Totally different from the ones that came before it in one very distinct way . . .I can't wait til I get the okay to share it with you!

And for those of you who prefer to listen to your books, the entire IMMORTALS SERIES is now available at Macmillan Audio, iTunes, and wherever else audio books are sold! And as it just so happens, the SHADOWLAND edition contains a special treat--an IMMORTALS pendant as pictured below:

(I've cut my hair since this pic, but the gist is the same!)

That's all for now--have a great day everyone!

My Life Would Suck Without YOU!!

(blog title courtesy of Kelly Clarkson)

So, the photo above was sent to me last night, and I have to tell you, the second I saw it it was all I could do not to head straight for the international terminal at LAX and board the first plane bound for Rome or Milan so I could see it for myself!

That is actually an advertisement that my Italian publisher, Fanucci, did for EVERMORE in the Rome and Milan subway stations--how cool is that?!

And check out the awesome website they built HERE!

Not like I needed yet another reason to love all things Italian, but still . . .

I am totally gobsmacked.

And speaking of gobsmacked, I just learned that Hebrew rights to The Immortals series were just sold, making for a total of 26 countries, which is more than I ever visited during my flight attendant days, so yeah, gobsmacked again!

Oh, and it also continues to be a bestseller in the UK - so I'd like to send a big, huge, purple (my new favorite color, turquoise move over!) THANKS to all of my readers across the pond--I couldn't do it without you! There's even a UK Bebo page you can check out HERE with a different and very cool version of the EVERMORE trailer!

And, the awesome Brittney over at St. Martin's Press has put together an Immortals Series Fan Page over at Facebook, so even if you're already a friend on my other page, I'd really love it if you would join this one as well, since it'll serve as the one stop spot (well aside from the awesome Immortals Series website they built) for all Immortals related news--and all you have to do is click HERE!

And while I haven't received my SHADOWLAND author copies yet (just 11 more days until it hits the stores!), I did receive a few copies of the audio version and was thrilled to see that they've included a nice little surprise in the form of an Immortals necklace!

And for those of you interested in attending one of the SHADOWLAND signings, just click HERE for the details!

And now I'm gearing up for a pod cast interview with the awesome Jessica Brody (whose book, LOVE UNDER COVER will hit the stores next week on Nov 10!), for a Free Book Friday Teens feature that'll be up next week . . . so stay tuned . . .

Oh, and if you haven't been to Free Book Friday Teens yet, be sure to do so, as she's giving away signed copies of PC & Kristin Cast's new release, TEMPTED, and today is the last day to enter to win! All you have to do is click HERE!!!

That's all for now--have a great day everyone!

Hey Ya!

I have a confession to make.

I, Alyson Noel, hereby confess to spending a ridiculous amount of time struggling to come up with pithy, appropriate blog post titles each and every time I blog. And since I still haven't come up with a real title for UNTITLED IMMORTALS #4, I think there's no room for doubt that I could definitely be using this time in a much better, more productive, way.

So, from this point on, I'm just going to randomly choose a song title from my iTunes playlist (no matter how embarrassing that may turn out to be-- as witnessed above!), and this should get me through then next couple years of blogging.

Whew!

Moving on--

So, I have a few things to share with you all, like this uber cool EVERMORE wiki made by a reader that can be found HERE!

And art--or more, concisely, foreign cover art!! Below are the EVERMORE covers from Hungary and the UK respectively!

Oh, and I did a really fun interview over at the Girardi Diner where I talk about which of my characters I'd most like to have dinner with and assorted things like that-click HERE to see it.

Oh, and even more art!! This was painted by a reader's mom!!! Isn't it amazing?! I LOVE it!

And don't forget to visit the Book Butterfly Blog for your chance to win a signed copy of BLUE MOON--click HERE for your chance to win!

And lastly, but not leastly, I just learned that BLUE MOON is #1 again on the NYT Bestsellers list for Children's Paperbacks for the third week in a row, while EVERMORE remains at #4 (that's 25 weeks in the top 5!!)!! And I just want to shout a big, loud: THANKS!!! out there to the universe and send another round of cyber hugs to all of YOU!

Thanks for all of your support!

Have a great day everyone!

Comic Con in Pictures!!!

Comic Con was Crazy.

And fun.

It was crazy fun.

Crazy because as a first timer I had no idea how long the lines would be. Did not know one had to be in line by 8 AM to see the cast of Psych at 3:45PM and then Dexter an hour later.

So, needless to say, I did not see them.

Though I did get to meet Cindy Pon who's debut novel, SILVER PHOENIX, is seriously amazing. And I mean, seriously, if you haven't read it yet, go get it! (Isn't her costume awesome?! Trust me, she's as kick-ass as her heroine!)

And I did get my picture taken with the TRANSFORMERS car and, er, something that might be from Star Wars (?)

Saw a pirate or two, though sadly, not Johnny Depp who made a surprise appearance!!!

Had a photo op with, um, this guy! (Sorry, I guess I'm more into paranormal than sci-fi!)

And yup, I actually worked a little too, (if you can call it that!), taking part in a really great panel, signing books afterwards, and meeting teacher and go-getter extraordinaire Beth Duncan who took these two photos!

Oh, and this last one is of me totally geeking out in the Barnes & Noble in Palm Desert-posing with my IMMORTALS display in the teens section!

And speaking of THE IMMORTALS . . . BLUE MOON just got a really nice review in TeenReads stating:

"Alyson Noël has many talents to share as a writer, and she proves it again and again with her amazing Immortals series. She writes with an intensity and a passion, her words weaving perfectly together to create an overwhelming experience for the senses and the heart. The excitement factor is nonstop . . . offering romance and heart-thumping chills.

Noël sets up the third book, scheduled for release in February 2010, with plenty of cliffhanging excitement."- - Reviewed by Chris Shanley-Dillman, author of FINDING MY LIGHT, THE BLACK POND and GHOSTS OF THE UPPER PENINSULA

To read the full review click HERE.

And Nightowl Romance gave it 4.5 Stars, saying:

"This series is so well done. The YA paranormal genre has a flawless diamond among the gems with Blue Moon. Ever does something that I wish more characters would do. She questions the man who has searched the world for her about his past and hers. Even when he doesn’t answer, Ever doesn’t stop wondering or questioning. Her new life is full of power, possibilities and love but it doesn’t stop her from wishing she could go back and keep her family from dying. When her friends and even Damon turn on her, the hurt she feels is palpable. My chest literally hurt as she went through that. Ever is immortal but she is still a teenager and teenagers make mistakes, but she deals with it and moves on from there. I was moved to tears by a couple of scenes, especially near the end. Ms. Noel doesn’t back away from emotion, instead she has the ability to reach into your chest and twist your heart."

And, that's it from me--have a great day everyone!

Hey Everyone-

Just wanted to notify/remind you of a few things that are coming up:

First off: Comic Con!!!

I'll be taking part on a panel Friday, July 24, 12:30-1:30, in Room 3, called:

Afterwards, I'll be signing books in the Autograph Area so if you find yourself in the San Diego Convention Center around that time, please stop by and say Hi--I'd love to meet you!

Also, did you know that tomorrow is a Full Solar Eclipse?? From what I gather, we won't be able to see it here, but other parts of the planet will and you can read more about it HERE.

Also, I just got the good news that EVERMORE will be released in the UK in October--so for all my friends across the pond--THE IMMORTALS are headed your way!

Have a great day everyone!

He Talks to Angels

So last night I celebrated the awesome BLUE MOON news (see below!) by drinking champagne, having dinner, and then attending a James Van Praagh event with some friends. It was an amazing night--partly because we got an incredibly accurate and personal message from the beyond, but also because at the end of the night, just after I had him sign my copy of UNFINISHED BUSINESS his latest New York Times Best Selling book, I gave him a signed copy of EVERMORE (my own NYT best selling book!), since I thanked him in the acknowledgments (I'd taken a 3 day seminar of his about a year ago-and was blown away!) and wanted  a chance to thank him again in person. It was a really cool moment and I just love being able to do things like that, which is why the dedication and acknowledgments pages are always especially fun to write!

And while we're on the subject of giving thanks, check these out:

These were done by a reader named Haley, and, honestly, I'm just gobsmacked by how awesome they are! So huge glittery thanks to Haley for making such beautiful IMMORTALS art!

Also, I just wanted to shout out yet another thanks to all of YOU--because aside from debuting at #1 on the NYT list, and #14 on the USA Today list, I just learned that BLUE MOON also landed at #22 on the NCIBA list! So, once again:

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!

And don't forget that tomorrow, Friday July 17th at 6:00 PM I'll be signing copies of BLUE MOON along with other titles of mine at:

Barnes & Noble
791 S. Main St. #100
Orange, CA 92868

And I hope to see YOU there!!

Have a great day everyone!

Coupla Things . . .

So last night my husband was looking at my wall calender and said, "Hey, did you realize BLUE MOON was released on the full moon?"

Um, no. I didn't.

But I really wish I did so I could've done a whole, cool, full moon, BLUE MOON, release blog party thing.

But now it's just a cool idea after the fact.

Oh well.

So yesterday EVERMORE landed at #4 on the New York Times Bestseller's List for Children's Paperbacks--woo hoo!! Making for 22 weeks in the top 5-- MAJOR Woo-Hoo!! And is also at #103 on the USA Today list--yay!!! And it's all because of readers like YOU- so thank you thank you thank you for that!

Also, Mind of a Bibliophile and Fantastic Book Reviews had some really really nice things to say about BLUE MOON, you can read their review HERE and HERE!

And, I'm really psyched that my EVERMORE/BLUE MOON playlist story made the Large Hearted Boy blog! You can read that one HERE!

I'll also be at Comic Con the following week on Friday, July 24th, doing a panel called "Future Fond Memories" and would love to see you there! The details are:

And last, but not least, there's still time to win a signed copy of EVERMORE & BLUE MOON over at Melissa Walker's blog, oh, and you can also read the whole BLUE MOON cover story and check out the one that didn't make it! All you have to do is click HERE!

And last, but not least, did you find all the tulips over at my new IMMORTALS site? Every time you click on a hidden tulip you get to listen to an audio clip of a scene not found in any of the books! Just click HERE to let the hunt begin!!

That's it for now, have a good day everyone!
