So, it's been a crazy/busy last few weeks, what with the release of SHADOWLAND, the deadline for Book #1 in the Riley Series (still no title!), which, btw, I had so much fun writing I actually finished it 2 weeks early (!), and then of course there was Thanksgiving, quickly followed by my b-day (thanks for all the b-day wishes--you guys are The Best!), and now I've spent the last few days desparately trying to catch up all the things I let slide . . .
(Part of my b-day dinner- I LOVE octopus, what can I say?!)
Part of that catching up including some interviews I'd promised a while back, one of which you can read HERE, and I have to say that this one happens to be particularly awesome to me since I was lucky enough to meet Amy at my Bakersfield signing and her and her husband could not have been nicer!
Also, I just learned that EVERMORE is nominated for GoodReads "All Time Favorite of 2009" Award, along with THE IMMORTALS series which is nominated for "Best YA series" Award--a sort of double header--how cool is that? For those of you interested in casting your vote, just click HERE!
And in more IMMORTALS type news, the series has now sold translation rights to 30 countries (!), and it's made the New York Times Children's Series Best Sellers List for 2 weeks straight--an amazingly difficult list as my 3 titles compete directly with series who boast 6 or more titles!! While SHADOWLAND has made the USA Today, Wall Street Journal, and WalMart Best Sellers Lists as well--so Thank YOU- Thank YOU- Thank YOU - for all of your support--I really appreciate it!
And speaking of SHADOWLAND, the Chattanooga Times chose it as a "Childrens Gift Book to Put Under the Tree"--you can see the full list HERE!
And speaking of DARK FLAME (okay, I know we weren't but I couldn't think of a better segue), I recently got a sneak peek at the cover and it's awesome!! Totally different from the ones that came before it in one very distinct way . . .I can't wait til I get the okay to share it with you!

Just wanted to give a shout out of THANKS to all of you who came out to last night's Bakersfield signing--some of you came from places as far as Riverside, Sonoma, and Italy (!) even--and I had such a great time meeting each and everyone of you!

3. Will you ever come to my town to do a signing?
I have a couple tours in the works for next year, and my publisher will be the one who decides when & where I go. If you want your town to be considered, then head over to THE IMMORTALS website HERE and click on "subscribe" (note-you must be 13 to subscribe). Not only will you get the heads up on all the latest breaking IMMORTALS type news, but they will also look at where the bulk of my readers live and take that into consideration when choosing the cities for the tour.
4. Will SHADOWLAND be released in hardcover or paperback?
In hardcover on Tuesday, November 17, and in paperback about a year later.
5. Will SHADOWLAND be available on iTunes &/or Kindle?
Yes & Yes!
6. Can you tell me how Ever & Damen will handle what happened to them at the end of BLUE MOON, and just who is this Jude anyway?
Sorry, but no spoilers allowed! It's all in the book!
7. Are you going to make a movie of THE IMMORTALS series?
Whether or not a movie gets made is really up to Hollywood, not me--though the dramatic rights have been optioned to a producer so my fingers are crossed . . .
8. If THE IMMORTALS gets made into a movie can I audition for a part?
Trust me, I will have nothing to do with casting. They hire professional casting directors for that sort of thing.
9. Who is the girl on the cover of the books?
I don't know. My publisher has an amazing art department that designs all of the covers.
10. Who is the guy who plays Damen in the book trailers?
I don't know. I hire Circle of Seven to make all of the trailers and they choose the pictures from royalty free photo sites.
11. Is SHADOWLAND going to be the last book in the series?
No!! DARK FLAME will follow in 2010, along with untitled books #5 & 6 in 2010/11. Ever & Damen have many more adventures ahead of them!
12. What's this I hear about a "Riley Series"?
Riley, Ever's ghostly sister, will get her own series set to debut in Fall 2010. It will be about her life in the afterlife. I'm writing it now and having a blast!
13. When will BLUE MOON be released in the UK?
In March 2010.
14. When will SHADOWLAND be released in the UK?
Some time after BLUE MOON.
15. When will BLUE MOON be released in my country?
Sorry, I don't have all the release dates as I have a different publisher for each country.
16. I have an idea for how THE IMMORTALS series should end, can I send it to you?
I've already decided how it ends, and due to legal reasons, I'm not allowed to read your ideas.
17. I'm working on a book of my own and am wondering if you would read it?
I'm sorry, but I can't, again, due to legal reasons, not to mention time constraints--it's all I can do to finish my own books!

19. Do you think SHADOWLAND will hit #1 on the New York Times Bestsellers list like EVERMORE & BLUE MOON did?
Well, I hope so! But because it's the third book in the series, I'm no longer eligible for the individual list, I am only eligible for the series list--which is a very hard list to break since they count the sales of all of the books in the entire series--meaning the total sales of my three IMMORTALS books are directly competing with the sales of other series books that may have as many as six or eight or more!!
Very. Tough. List.
But my fingers (and toes!) are crossed!
20. Any early good news on SHADOWLAND?
RT Magazine gave it 4.5 stars (out of 4.5 stars) and chose it as a December Top Pick! Saying:

So yesterday I was working on Riley Book Number 1 (no title yet, so that's what I'm calling it until further notice!) and I was writing this scene with Buttercup (her yellow lab) and at that moment I wanted a yellow lab of my own so bad I can't even tell you. It was just like writing about Italy when I've been chained (figuratively speaking!) to my desk for weeks on end, or describing food in a scene when my last meal was hours ago--that sort of salivating feeling filled with so much, well, wantingness! Then just after I hit my word count, I headed over to some friend's house for dinner and there on the couch was their yellow lab who was so incredibly sweet and well behaved, well, it seemed like a sign . . .

So, the photo above was sent to me last night, and I have to tell you, the second I saw it it was all I could do not to head straight for the international terminal at LAX and board the first plane bound for Rome or Milan so I could see it for myself!
That is actually an advertisement that my Italian publisher, Fanucci, did for EVERMORE in the Rome and Milan subway stations--how cool is that?!

I am totally gobsmacked.
And speaking of gobsmacked, I just learned that Hebrew rights to The Immortals series were just sold, making for a total of 26 countries, which is more than I ever visited during my flight attendant days, so yeah, gobsmacked again!
Oh, and it also continues to be a bestseller in the UK - so I'd like to send a big, huge, purple (my new favorite color, turquoise move over!) THANKS to all of my readers across the pond--I couldn't do it without you! There's even a UK Bebo page you can check out HERE with a different and very cool version of the EVERMORE trailer!

So, last Friday night I lived out a long held dream--
I got to see David Sedaris perform live.
And I laughed for two hours straight.
He is hilarious! A master of observation, seamlessly blending the absurd with the poignant. The theater was packed, the signing lines were long, but it was worth every second of waiting as he just camps out at that table, occasionally taking bites of his dinner, as he chats with every single person, and signs every single book, no matter how long it takes.
Yup, I love him even more now!!
And since the event was in San Diego, we decided to make a weekend of it, and stayed a couple nights in La Jolla, which is a lot like Laguna, except that they have lots of Torrey Pines and we don't.
Anyway, it was one of those awesome, relaxing weekends that you don't want to end, except that it did, and now it's Monday, and I'm working like crazy to catch up . . .
And speaking of catching up, just 15 more days until SHADOWLAND is released and I really hope you can make one (or both!) of these signings!
Wow, somehow this week really got away from me--I can't believe it's already Thursday!
Which, means I am now, officially, just one day away from seeing David Sedaris live--I can't wait!!!
I paid an embarrassing amount to sit front row center, and just after clicking "submit" I have to admit I felt more than a little dumb. I mean, the guy stands at a podium and READS--it's not like there will be any singing or dancing. But still, the truth is, I love him, and I just can't take the chance that someone with an especially big head, wearing an especially big hat will come between us.
Nope, I just can't risk it.

The focus was on celebrating their life and sharing funny memories, and while memorials are never easy, and the loss of my friend loomed large, there were some really great moments, involving some genuine laughs that seemed to lift the whole room. And it was during one of those laughs when I realized, once again, that THIS is what it’s really about.
It’s not what we are in the world, but howwe are that matters.
“We are not defined by our things . . . It’s not the clothes that we wear, the cars that we drive, the art we acquire—it’s not where we live—but how we live that defines us. . .it’s our actions that are remembered long after we’re gone.”
And while my friend will be remembered by thousands of people around the world for his groundbreaking books on screenwriting, it was his unfailing optimism, generosity of spirit, and pure passion for seeing his students succeed that touched us the most.

So remember when I told you about EVERMORE being pubbed in the UK? Well, the other day I received the "black box"--a sort of marketing treat they sent out to various UK booksellers consisting of, well, a black box, a copy of EVERMORE, a copy of The Bookseller (see post below), some red confetti, and several fortune cookies, wrapped in shiny red mylar, with fortunes such as these (I know it's kind of hard to read, but squinting helps!):
How cool is that? Wish I'd thought of it!

So, things have been rather busy here at the Alyson Noel headquarters (aka- The Home Office). Well, it's been a pretty exciting week so far and to think it's only Tuesday! EVERMORE in the UK:
The EVERMORE UK release has been moved up to September 17th (woo-hoo!!)!! Which means my friends across the pond will get their very own version where "color" is spelled "colour" and, um, other really cool things like that! I'm so excited to be sold in the UK, it was the first foreign place I ever visited, and has alway remained a favorite of mine! I'm hoping this means I'll have an excuse to go back . . .
SHADOWLAND:
I know I mentioned it before, but from the amount of questions and e-mails I'm getting, I think it bears repeating so here goes:
SHADOWLAND will now be released on 11.24.09. That is official. It will also be released in hardcover with a trade paperback version to follow about a year later. And for those of you who prefer your books to match, I'm told that at some point EVERMORE and BLUE MOON will also be made available in hardcover too. I'm really excited about this, and want to thank all of you for your excitement too!
And, speaking of Frequently Asked Questions, as I'm racing toward the end of UNTITLED #4 (yup, still calling it that!), desperately trying to finish it up by its deadline, I've gotten a little behind on answering my e-mails and messages. But since I've I have noticed a similar theme to the questions, I thought I'd post some of the answers right here:
Are you going to make the IMMORTALS into a movie/TV show?

"Evermore is the first book in a new Young Adult Series called The Immortals. The writing is eloquent, the characters come alive, and the romance is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. “The cover is a bit reminiscent of Twilight and, once you get into the book, there are a lot of similarities. There is the new girl at school, beautiful and awkward, and the mysterious guy who is both charming and dangerous. Is he good for her or bad? Should she run from him? And do we want her to???But to be fair, that is really where the similarities end. . .Ever is an easy character to like. I really felt for her because of all she lost and what she struggled with daily. Her two best friends are also great characters who provide both a little humor. Another recurring character I enjoyed was the ghost of Ever's younger sister, who visits frequently. . .Overall, I thought Evermore was a really fast, engaging read with some great characters. It is the first in a series, so I'm eager to see if we will learn more about Ever, Damen and friends in the next one, or if the author will introduce us to some brand new characters. "Evermore is one of those books that is simply hypnotizing. I picked it up and couldn't put it down. It's in my top of 2009. I like paranormal but have felt a little burnt out on the whole vampire aspect of novels that are popular now. Evermore has so much more to give than just your average story. It has mystery, love, and intrigue. Throughout the whole book, I couldn't put it down, due to needing to know what was really going on and how Ever fit into the whole big picture. Ever is a great protagonist and never bored or irritated me. Alyson Noel is one of my all time favorite authors and she doesn't disappoint this time. The ending is also nice to where you can wait for the next book (out later '09 --titled Blue Moon) and not feel like you're going to pull your hair out.
