Build Me Up Buttercup

(Blog title courtesy of The Foundations)

So yesterday I was working on Riley Book Number 1 (no title yet, so that's what I'm calling it until further notice!) and I was writing this scene with Buttercup (her yellow lab) and at that moment I wanted a yellow lab of my own so bad I can't even tell you. It was just like writing about Italy when I've been chained (figuratively speaking!) to my desk for weeks on end, or describing food in a scene when my last meal was hours ago--that sort of salivating feeling filled with so much, well, wantingness! Then just after I hit my word count, I headed over to some friend's house for dinner and there on the couch was their yellow lab who was so incredibly sweet and well behaved, well, it seemed like a sign . . .

But well before I make the transition from fictional dog owner to real dog owner, I'm giving away five signed copies of SHADOWLAND, (in stores November 17th!), and answering your questions in a podcast interview over at Free Book Friday Teens, just click HERE! for your chance to listen and win!

Okay, back to Riley's adventures for me . . . have a fun weekend everyone!

Brand New Day

(Blog title courtesy of Sting)

Wow, somehow this week really got away from me--I can't believe it's already Thursday!

Which, means I am now, officially, just one day away from seeing David Sedaris live--I can't wait!!!

I paid an embarrassing amount to sit front row center, and just after clicking "submit" I have to admit I felt more than a little dumb. I mean, the guy stands at a podium and READS--it's not like there will be any singing or dancing. But still, the truth is, I love him, and I just can't take the chance that someone with an especially big head, wearing an especially big hat will come between us.

Nope, I just can't risk it.

But that's all for tomorrow, for now, I just wanted to remind you of a few things, the first being: Free Book Friday Teens--the awesome site run by author extraordinaire Jessica Brody, where you can win a signed book every Friday--all you have to do is click HERE to sign up! And, while you're there, if there's anything you want to ask me--any burning Immortals related questions, just fill out the box on the right hand side bar, as I'll be dropping by in November to answer the top ten! But hurry, last day to submit your question is November 1!

Also, I'm Living My Five this week HERE and giving an interview over at The Enchanted Inkpot HERE!

And, I just wanted to thank you all, yet again, for all of your amazing support!! EVERMORE & BLUE MOON continue to stay on the New York Times Bestsellers list for their 38th & 16th weeks respectively, and I just learned that they hit the WalMart bestsellers list too--and I couldn't have done it without you! So thank you - thank you - thank you!!

Hope you all have a great day!

Alyson

PS- Just 19 more days until SHADOWLAND is in stores. . .

My office just got prettier . . .

. . .and I didn't even have to clean it because the FTD man just left these on my door step!!!

Two dozen, completely glorious, Vera Wang roses (I didn't even know Vera grew roses?!) sent by my publisher!!  And now everything in this overcrowded workspace looks better and brighter and smells dreamy too!!

Also, just learned that the French version of the EVERMORE booktrailer is up on YouTube!!
They're calling it Eternels on that side of the pond, and they've kept the cover the same.

But the bad news is, I can't seem to upload it here. (Oh blogger--why have you forsaken me?!)

But the good news is, you can watch it by clicking HERE.

And the really good news is, it appears my high school French has remained faithful all these years . . . merci, mademoiselle Hoehn!!

Oh, and just 6 more days now until BLUE MOON officially drops . . .and just two more days until we pick a winner for those signed copies on Free Book Friday Teens, so be sure to sign up!

And, come Tuesday, I have something really, really great to share with you!!  So great I wish I could share it now--but I promised I wouldn't so . . .

You can wait through the weekend though, right??!!

;-D

Have a good day everyone!

Release Day Activities

So yesterday was one of those really great days! You know the kind where you just wake up happy, stay that way throughout, and then go to bed with a smile on your face?

It was pretty much like that!

I guess because it was EVERMORE's official release day, which, let's face it, release day is always pretty exciting, but still, this one was a little more so than usual. I heard from so many excited readers via Myspace, Facebook, my bulletin board, e-mail--I could hardly believe it! (You guys read fast and your kind words mean the world to me! And yes, I will get back to all of you soon!). Not to mention all those awesome teen bloggers who were nice enough to interview me (links in blog posts below and more to come!). And then of course, there's the YA author community in general which is so warm, friendly, and supportive--I'm proud to be a part of it!

Oh, and speaking of cool YA authors, the uber cool Melissa Walker sent me this photo of EVERMORE taken at the B&N in Union Square:

Seriously, how sweet is she?

But the other part of what made the day so great-- is that I got to do a few of my favorite things like: hit the bookstores!! I love bookstores. Always have. I even have this recurring fantasy of owning a little bookstore in a location so remote, with so few  customers, I get to sit at my unused cash register all day and just read!! My husband who, luckily, is a little more practical, business minded, and left-brained than me, assures me this particular fantasy should not be acted on. Anyway, back to the bookstores, well, it didn't really go as I'd planned, so here's the report: some of the B&Ns didn't even get their EVERMORE copies yet! (Gasp!)  Though they assured me they have bunches on order and expect them to arrive "any day now." And then some of the Border's had already either sold out (!) and/or only had one left, but since they're supposed to order more, I'll definitely check back and sign then! And since the area I just happened to be trolling had no independents, I'll be checking in on those later this week!

So, not really getting the signing fix I was after, I moved on to my mom's where I foisted stacks and stacks of bookmarks on her before heading out to a Mexican restaurant for dinner, which, seriously now, is there anything better than that guacamole they make right at your table?

I think not.

And by the time I finally made it home, eager to watch the season 7 disc 5 Buffy DVD that Netflix had so kindly sent me, I found that my awesome editor had sent me this:

That's EVERMORE in the Feb/Mar issue of Justine magazine- chosen as a Page Turner pick! Squee!!

And then after watching The Spike Show, er, Buffy (oh, Spike how I love thee!), I checked my Amazon numbers one last time (I know, I know, but I just can't help myself!) and saw that EVERMORE was in the top 25 books in teen Sci-Fi--

and that's when I went to bed happy!

Oh, and for those of you wanting to get your hands on a signed copy, stop by Stephanie Kuehnert's blog where later today she's kindly featuring me as a Woman Who Rocks (trust me, Stephanie's the one who rocks!), and giving away a copy of EVERMORE to one random commenter!

And speaking of signed copies--don't forget to stop by Free Book Friday Teens for your chance to hear the Ally Carter interview and win one of 4 signed copies of her phenomenal GALLAGHER GIRLS books!

That's it for now--have a good day everyone!

More EVERMORE news!

Yay! Khyrinithia, aka- The Frenetic Reader likes EVERMORE!!!

Here's what she said:

" . . .I found myself unwilling to put the book down, even though I had to at some points, because I wanted to know what was going to happen with everyone and see how all the little subplots would be woven together.

Also, Alyson Noel knows how to write her characters. Ever was so real and her emotions were so believable that it was a little creepy. It's like Alyson Noël is actually a grieving, lovestruck teenager. She got Ever completely perfect. And by perfect, I mean delightfully flawed and deep. Also, I'm kind of smitten with Damen even though he got on my nerves a lot. He's fascinating to read about because of his past. Love him.

Alright, since I know nobody went and preordered this before reading the review, you better go do it now. You're really going to want this one. I swear. It's a great start to the series, especially considering that the ending isn't a big cliffhanger but still leaves you wanting more. (Well, actually me since I've read it. You just sounds better. But once you read it you'll want the sequel. Trust me.)"

8.7ish/10

To see the full review, click HERE!

Also, congrats to the winners of the Last Two EVERMORE ARCs over at Free Book Friday Teens, make sure to check back tomorrow for more chances to win!

Today I'm finishing up revisions on BLUE MOON so I can get started on Untitled Book Number 3 (hopefully that title will change!)

Have a good weekend everyone!!

All Hallows Eve . . .

So, I've come to the realization that I really love Halloween--in  a theoretical way. I love the idea of dressing up, and every year I come up with elaborate couples costume for my husband and I to wear (this year we'll don  hypothetical Marie Antoinette and Count Fersen costumes--it's an EVERMORE thing!). But the truth is, it never really gets past the idea stage--I haven't dressed up in over a decade.

As a kid, I always had the coolest costumes on the block. Though it had nothing to do with me, it was all because of my mom. I had one of those mom's that made everything from scratch--hand embroidery, smocking on my dresses--it was no problem for her. Though my favorite costume of all was the turquoise blue fringed flapper dress with the matching boa and feather headband she made--I didn't want to take it off--and would kill
for that costume today!

And when it came to candy, I was all about the Butterfinger. M&M's, candy corn, they all had their place, but give me a bite sized Butterfinger and I was in heaven!

But today, I'm not so big on candy. And when it comes to passing it out--well, it's a hit or miss thing. Some years I'm home with a bowl full of the good stuff (ie Butterfingers, Krackle, and M&Ms), and other years I purposely stay away until it's safe to come home.

Mine is not a house you can count on.

So tonight, whether I'm home between the magic hours of 6-9 remains to be seen, though by ten o'clock you can find me curled up on my couch, wearing my PJs, watching a season two DVD of DEXTER. And on Sunday, in the interest of "research," I'll be getting a past life regression with Dr. Brian Weiss-- I wonder what I will see???  Last time it wasn't at all what I expected . . .

Oh, and if you haven't done so already, make sure you head over to Jessica Brody's brand spankin' new Free Book Friday for Teens.  She's kicking it off by giving away the only remaining EVERMORE ARCs, and since the book doesn't drop until Feb 3, 2009--this is your last chance to get an early read!  Also, everyone who signs up will automatically get a sneak peek at chapter one!  So don't miss it, click HERE!

So tell me, how do you celebrate All Hallows Ever? Do you dress up? Pass out candy?? Or will you be watching Dexter like me?

Happy Halloween Everyone!
