Which, means I am now, officially, just one day away from seeing David Sedaris live--I can't wait!!! I paid an embarrassing amount to sit front row center, and just after clicking "submit" I have to admit I felt more than a little dumb. I mean, the guy stands at a podium and READS--it's not like there will be any singing or dancing. But still, the truth is, I love him, and I just can't take the chance that someone with an especially big head, wearing an especially big hat will come between us. Nope, I just can't risk it. So, I just got home from a whirl wind day of dental appointments and other miscellaneous errands only to find these on my doorstep--- Sent from my UK publisher because EVERMORE made the bestsellers list!!! Thank YOU Thank YOU Thank YOU to all of you who made this happen--I am simply over the moon!!!! Have a good night everyone! Alyson xoxo Thursday, September 10, 2009Round Here![]() Well, things have been a little quiet round here for the last week or so, and I'm blaming it on The Deadline, or, The Deadlines (plural) as the case may be. I spent part of last week holed up in a Vegas hotel room, hunched over my computer, writing like mad, while my husband enjoyed a little time by the pool reading the pages I'd written the day before--yup, we're quite the team! The trip was planned many, many months ago, so many months ago that I actually got the dates mixed up and we almost missed the first day! Of course, back when we planned it, I imagined myself by the pool as well with deadlines the farthest thing from my mind, but still, it wasn't so bad and I think I might be onto something. There's something to be said for things like room service and freshly made beds and clean towels when you're down to the wire! Of course it wasn't all work and no play, I managed to get out at night for some really great meals, and we even saw Jersey Boys, which was fabu!!! If you get a chance to see it--GO--I'm so serious, it was awesome and I've been listening to the soundtrack all week! But the best part of all is that I actually got the book done a day before it was due! The book being DARK FLAME which is now with my editor, as I roll up my sleeves (metaphorically speaking, it's hot here, so I'm pretty much wearing tank tops these days!), as I finish up a story for the KISSES FROM HELL anthology, and get started on the first book in Riley's series . . . But before I get back to work, I wanted to make you aware of a couple things, the first being my talk and sign this Saturday at the Mission Viejo Reader's Festival. I'll be partaking in a panel and signing right after, the details are: Saturday, September 12, 2009 Mission Viejo Readers Festival Teen Panel- 2:30-3:30 Jacaranda Room Signing immediately after Mission Viejo Library 100 Civic Center Mission Viejo, CA 92691 And, the second being this EVERMORE video made by a reader (shout out to Alexandra!) that is just awesome! It contains spoilery parts so if you haven't read the book yet, proceed with caution, but still, it's really great and you can check it out by clicking HERE. (I was going to post it directly, but Blogger is acting all testy today, hence the link!) And last but not least a big, huge, confetti strewn THANKS to all of YOU for keeping EVERMORE & BLUE MOON in the top 5 on the New York Times Bestsellers list for 31 and 9 weeks running!!! I couldn't do it without you! And . . . that's it! Have a great day everyone! A Labels: dark flame, EVERMORE, jersey boys, las vegas Wednesday, September 02, 2009How to Save a Life

The Fivers went live--taking our first step toward changing the world--and we were thrilled to see so many of you vowing to join us on the journey! Oh, and the winners have been announced too, so click HERE to see if one of them was you! I typed "The End" on Untitled Book #4, took a few seconds to celebrate, then went right back to page one to start revising. . . I learned that the EVERMORE & BLUE MOON translation rights were just sold to Romania! I also learned that EVERMORE & BLUE MOON hit the #2 & #3 spots this week on the New York Times Best Sellers list for Children's Paperbacks so THANK YOU for that! Oh, and the SHADOWLAND release date has been moved up again, so look for it on 11.17.09. And I got a nice mention in the September Costco connection (see above), along with Kelley Armstrong, PC Cast, Cassandra Claire, and others in an article about paranormal and teens! And speaking of paranormal and teens, I just learned that NIGHT RUNNER, a book I provided a blurb for a few months back will be released on Sept 1!!! And let me tell you, it is one, action packed, thrill ride that had me hooked from the first sentence! So, without further ado: This is NIGHT RUNNER: ![]() This is what NIGHT RUNNER is about: For Zack Thomson, living in the Nicholls Ward isn’t so bad. After his parents died, he developed strange and severe allergies, and the mental institution was the only place where he could be properly looked after. As strange as it was, it was home. He could watch as much television as he wanted; his best friend Charlie visited him often enough; and Nurse Ophelia—the prettiest no-nonsense nurse ever—sometimes took him bowling. Of course, that didn’t mean he had it easy. His allergies restricted his diet to strawberry smoothies, and being the only kid at the hospital could get lonely. But it never once crossed Zack’s mind to leave…until the night someone crashed through the front doors and told him to run. Now he’s on a race for answers—about his past, his parents, and his strange sickness—even as every step takes him closer to the darkest of truths . . . This right HERE is a very fun, NIGHT RUNNER quiz! This is one of the places you can pre-order NIGHT RUNNER! And last, but not least, these drawings were sent to me by Alexa!!! Aren't they awesome??!!! I love, love, love them--THANK YOU, ALEXA!!! Happy Sunday everyone! Check it out! So dark and dreamy--I love to see how other countries interpret the cover art! And, last but not least--I did it! Yesterday I typed my two favorite words-- "The End" to UNTITLED IMMORTALS #4. I feel I should warn you right up front, before you commit to reading this any further, that this is going to be one of those "catch-up" blogs--the kind where I basically list all of the most recent happenings in place of any real, deep, philosophical ramblings.
This is basically due to the fact that UNTITLED IMMORTALS #4 is not only in need of a title, but it's also in need of an ending . . . an ending that's due on my editor's desk (shout out to the awesome Rose Hilliard!!) in just under a month and it's pretty much sucking up any and all of my creative juices, which means there's not a whole lot of juice left over for stuff like this . . . so . . .consider yourself warned! First off, I'm happy to announce that I will have a short story in the upcoming anthology, KISSES FROM HELL! Born in the same tradition as PROM NIGHTS FROM HELL, and VACATIONS FROM HELL, this one is about, well, kisses. But probably not the good kind, since, well, they're from hell and all . . . Also, if you were in any way, shape, and/or form hankering for the audio edition of EVERMORE, well, hanker no more! This is your chance to win your very own copy--just click HERE for all the deets on how to do just that--but be sure to do so before August 15, cuz that's when the contest ends! And since I've boarded the happy announcements train, I'm thrilled to announce the following: BLUE MOON landed at #1 again this week on the New York Times Best Sellers List for Children's Paperbacks (making for 5 weeks straight!), with EVERMORE coming in at #3 (making for 27 weeks in the top 5!). They also landed on the USA Today list at #35 & 77 respectively, and on the Publisher's Weekly list at #2 and #7--so thank you thank you thank you for that!! Also, BLUE MOON was chosen as an Alloy "Sweet Summer Read" you can check it out HERE. And, I recently had the amazing opportunity to have lunch with a longtime hero of mine, sorry I can't say who, but aside from it being one of those truly great, fan-girl-kind-of-moments, I just so happened to glean one of the secret to their amazing success--ready? It involves waking up at 3:30 AM to lift weights before settling in to work. Simple right? That's exactly what I thought when I decided to try it out for myself . . .only to wake up at my usual 8:30 AM . . .Oh well, guess I'm more of a "mid-afternoon/night person" anyway . . . And since I like to leave things on a cliff hanger when and where I can, allow me to say I have some VERY EXCITING announcements coming up soon. . . Very . . . Very . . . Exciting . . . Very, Very, Soon . . . Have a great day everyone! A xoxo Labels: blue moon, EVERMORE, Rose Hilliard Friday, August 07, 2009Drops of Jupiter(Still using random song titles as blog titles and loving the ease of it- so expect it to continue until further notice!)So the other night, when my BFF invited my husband and I to a "wine dinner at Morton's on Thursday," I pretty much said, "Sure!" without asking for any further details other than what time we needed to be there. I'm facing several deadlines, there'd been a bit of sadness lately, and I knew some time with her and her fiancee would provide a nice break. As it turns out, "the wine dinner" was actually a Blind Tasting Seminar and was absolutely fascinating. I like wine. It's pretty much the only alcoholic beverage I drink. I even spent a week in a French Chateau in the Rhone Valley several years ago learning about wine in a seminar sponsored by the airline I used to work for (there was an essay contest for people who wanted to attend and I was one of the winners!). The purpose of course, was not to have a blast drinking wine all day (which we did), but to learn enough about wine so that we could knowledgeably suggest wine pairings for our first class customers on international flights (which we also did). But, as I said that was several years ago, and the memories of what I learned has since gone a bit fuzzy. So last night's course was not only a really fun refresher, but it gave me the inside scoop on how people can successfully pronounce a wine's vintage and type simply by doing the whole swirl, sniff, and taste without once seeing the bottle from which it was poured. And while I won't get into all the minutiea of how that is done, and while I in no way want to promote underage drinking as I know many of you are well under 21, I will say I was pretty fascinated to learn that one of the distinguishing notes of Sauvignon Blanc is that it smells like "cat box" and that Pinot Noir smells like "barnyard." MMMMM. . .YUMMMM!!! But what's really cool is this certificate declaring me an official, Morton's Associate Sommelier!! Rock on! ![]() Oh, and then after the class, we moved into the dining room to enjoy dinner, an I saw that my BFFs had arranged this: ![]() Notice the first line at the top? How cool is that?! Thanks Snarky & O'malley--you guys rock!!! And speaking of things that rock, check out this brand spankin' new booktrailer for EVERMORE's UK release! I love it so much, I'm just gobsmacked by what a good job they've done! View it HERE! Have a great day everyone! Alyson xoxo Labels: EVERMORE, evermore in the UK, morton's Thursday, August 06, 2009Who'll Stop the Rain?So if you read the previous post, then you know that author, screenwriter, story guru, and all around amazing human being (and I don't use that lightly, in this case it's true) Blake Snyder has passed away, leaving this world way too soon. It's taken me a few days to collect my thoughts on this loss, probably because I, like many others, felt it so deep. Blake was one of those rare individuals with a passion for both life and story craft that was hugely infectious, you couldn't help but smile when he was in the room. I'd read his books a few years ago, and always recommend them to anyone even remotely interested in story craft as they are truly life-changing, or at least they were for me. But I didn't get the chance to see him in person until the RWA convention in San Francisco last year, taking the stage in front of hundreds (thousands?) of writers, mostly female, and he was so giddy with excitement about the craft of storytelling he actually giggled--resulting in my best memory of the entire weekend. Then, last April, when my local RWA chapter invited him to come speak, I seized the chance to sign books alongside him. Afraid of coming off like the semi-crazed fan that I was, I couldn't help but gush, over and over again, about how much his books helped me with everything from plotting my novels to crafting synopsis and back cover copy. And rather than being put off by my rabid, fan-girl, mumblings, he couldn't have been more gracious or kind--that's just who he was. And when he bought a copy of EVERMORE and asked me to sign it--well, it was a moment I'll never forget. We exchanged a few e-mails, and I was on the verge of e-mailing him again, but being so busy with the deadline for book #4 (still untitled!), a story for an anthology (KISSES FROM HELL), and copy-edits for SHADOWLAND--I put it off, thinking I had plenty of time--something there's never enough of. I should know that by now. And though he's no longer with us, his passion for story and people will always live on in the brilliant legacy he left behind in his books, his movies, and his passion for those whom he reached. I'll be speaking at my local RWA chapter on Saturday morning about the craft of writing YA, drawing on some examples of how Blake's methods influenced my books, among other things. If you get a chance to stop by, I'd love to see you there. The cost is $10 for members and $20 for non-members. Details for the event can be found HERE. Carpe Diem everyone! See, I wasn't kidding about my new blog titling method--so stay tuned for more embarrassing iTunes confessions!!
So, yesterday I had lunch with a friend I hadn't seen in over 25 years. She was one of the first to befriend me when I moved to a new town as a kid, she taught me to ride a horse (she had two, I eventually got one), and we played Barbies together--making complicated sprawling compounds for them to live in, complete with barns and stables (filled with model horses), and, with both of us being such avid readers, we also crafted some equally complicated backstories, usually involving torrid relationship histories between Barbie, Ken, and that third wheel PJ. ![]() And then came middle school when the Barbies were replaced with trips to Skateway, then high school and all of its ensuing complications, and then, somehow, we lost touch . . . (my 14 year old self--heavily influenced by Farrah Fawcett) And now, many, many years later, we met up again, only this time she had her delightful 12 year old daughter in tow--and, well, it was great! Truly great! It's a really wonderful thing when you can connect with your past in such a fun way, to learn and share about the journeys life took, all the unexpected twists and turns, the losses and triumphs, and the way that it informed and shaped us along the way. And speaking of journeys, I'm talking about some of my favorite ones over on Little Willow's blog today--and answering the question, which would I choose: Time Travel or Immortality?? You can read it HERE. And now I'm asking YOU. If you had the choice, would you rather be able to time travel or live forever?? Also, just learned that BLUE MOON landed at #24 this week on the USA Today list, while EVERMORE came in at # 58-- So thank you thank you thank you for that!! Enjoy your weekend, Everyone! Labels: bluemoon, EVERMORE, little willow, slayground, usa today bestseller Wednesday, July 29, 2009Hey Ya!I have a confession to make. I, Alyson Noel, hereby confess to spending a ridiculous amount of time struggling to come up with pithy, appropriate blog post titles each and every time I blog. And since I still haven't come up with a real title for UNTITLED IMMORTALS #4, I think there's no room for doubt that I could definitely be using this time in a much better, more productive, way. So, from this point on, I'm just going to randomly choose a song title from my iTunes playlist (no matter how embarrassing that may turn out to be-- as witnessed above!), and this should get me through then next couple years of blogging. Okay, that's it on my end--back to work!! Have a great day everyone! Alyson :-D Labels: barnes and noble, blue moon, book reader times, chitty chitty bang bang, EVERMORE, publisher's weekly starred review Saturday, July 18, 2009Yesterday!So yesterday's book signing was, in a word, phenomenal. Truly. ![]() I walked in at 6:00 PM on the dot (I usually strive to be 10 minutes early but got caught up in the usual Friday traffic snarl--I curse you 5 freeway!) and what I saw left me completely gobsmacked!! There was a line!! A big, huge, line that wrapped around all the way to the Starbucks! And from what I heard, people started forming that line an hour before the event, and the line kept replenishing for well over an hour!! The last time I had a line like that was at an ALA conference, though I should mention that the books I was signing were also being given away for free. Free books tend to attract a crowd. But that was not the case last night. Nope. You guys came out from all over the place, one woman even took the day off work so she could drive the three and a half hours from Ventura to Orange just to have her copies of EVERMORE & BLUE MOON signed!! To say I was touched is putting it mildly. The Frenetic Reader was there, along with Amaze of Books, and a couple more of their blogger friends, and I had such a blast signing books for an hour and a half straight and talking with all of you--I swear I have the best readers an author could ask for! And, if that wasn't enough, I also got a nice mention in yesterday's San Francisco Chronicle (yup, yesterday was a great day!), you can see it HERE. But maybe it's best summed up HERE. Okay, back to work on UNTITLED IMMORTALS #4 (yup, still calling it that!)! Have a great day everyone! So last night I celebrated the awesome BLUE MOON news (see below!) by drinking champagne, having dinner, and then attending a James Van Praagh event with some friends. It was an amazing night--partly because we got an incredibly accurate and personal message from the beyond, but also because at the end of the night, just after I had him sign my copy of UNFINISHED BUSINESS his latest New York Times Best Selling book, I gave him a signed copy of EVERMORE (my own NYT best selling book!), since I thanked him in the acknowledgments (I'd taken a 3 day seminar of his about a year ago-and was blown away!) and wanted a chance to thank him again in person. It was a really cool moment and I just love being able to do things like that, which is why the dedication and acknowledgments pages are always especially fun to write!
And while we're on the subject of giving thanks, check these out: ![]() ![]() ![]() These were done by a reader named Haley, and, honestly, I'm just gobsmacked by how awesome they are! So huge glittery thanks to Haley for making such beautiful IMMORTALS art! Also, I just wanted to shout out yet another thanks to all of YOU--because aside from debuting at #1 on the NYT list, and #14 on the USA Today list, I just learned that BLUE MOON also landed at #22 on the NCIBA list! So, once again: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! And don't forget that tomorrow, Friday July 17th at 6:00 PM I'll be signing copies of BLUE MOON along with other titles of mine at: Barnes & Noble 791 S. Main St. #100 Orange, CA 92868 And I hope to see YOU there!! Have a great day everyone! I have no updates on the TV show/movie yet--but promise to keep you posted if anything does come up! A Labels: blue moon, EVERMORE, free book friday teens, french evermore Friday, June 26, 2009Thank You Story Siren!!!![]() Oh, I'm just gobsmacked!! Look what The Story Siren had to say about BLUE MOON: "Blue Moon was incredible. If you thought Evermore was full of suspense and unknowns, just wait until you read Blue Moon. Noel surpassed all expectations I had for the sequel, if this is a preview to how the rest of the series will be, we all in for a huge treat. The plot was insane, and I mean that in a good way. Noel took this novel in a direction I was never expecting, resulting in an emotional roller coaster ride that I never wanted to end. It was so cleverly pieced, so intricately meshed, I never saw it coming. Fabulous. Pieces of Damen’s history are revealed as well as some glimpses in to Ever’s previous lives. I have to admit that was one of my favorite aspects of the story. Damen’s character was displayed on a whole new level in this novel, if you didn’t feel a connection with him in Evermore, you’ll be sure to in Blue Moon. Not to mention the new incredibly enticing characters introduced; Roman, Romy and Rayne. Evermore was good, but Blue Moon is phenomenal. If you’re looking for a new fantasy series that’s worth reading, be sure to check out the Immortals series."- The Story Siren Plot: ![]() Characters: ![]() Ending: ![]() Writing: ![]() Cover: ![]() You can visit THE STORY SIREN HERE!
